Rapid Reaction: Tigers Destroy Pit Wolfies

After all that buildup by the media all day, Clemson came out and threw the ball all over a hapless NC State secondary and the defense mopped the floor with Ryan Finley’s offense in a huge rout in the Valley.

This looks like a typical NC State team: when they’re supposed to give you a fight, they stink it up, and when they’re supposed to suck, they sneak up and beat you. They were supposed to give us a fight and we kicked their ass today. Vegas knew what was up with that -18 pt line.

Clemson’s defense was just dialed into everything they tried today. Our pass rush was good enough, but I really felt the secondary was locked onto everything down the field. Their guys couldn’t catch the 50-50 balls, and Mullen/Terrell were all over everything in their direction. That was the first real test of the secondary in several weeks and they responded. State couldn’t block us up front to get their run game going, so they were pretty much useless on the offensive side of the ball. Just a great job in preparation over the bye week.

State probably spent their bye week studying Clemson’s offensive blocking schemes and spent the whole time obsessing on how to stuff ETN. They sold out on the run pretty much all the time, and played very aggressively in their run fits at Safety and LB. Of course now with TL in at QB, we just ate them up throwing to the open receivers down the field everywhere. While I am disappointed that the offensive line basically got nothing going on the ground, at least we were able to throw it everywhere we wanted.

Even the backups got to score late in the end, so good game all around for Clemson.
